How social stories work
New places and events can feel big. A social story is a short, first-person story you read together before the day comes — a haircut, the dentist, the first day of school. Walking through it on paper first takes much of the scare out of the new.
- Get a story: tap Story library (top right) for a ready-made one, or Write your own.
- Read it together once a day for a few days before the big day — at your learner's pace, no tests, no pressure.
- Each time you finish a read, one keyword quietly steps back and becomes a blank. Your learner fills it in from memory — that's how you know it's sinking in.
- When every word has stepped back, the sentences fade and only the key words stay lit. Your learner can now tell the whole story from just those words.
- On the big day, leave the story at home — it lives in your learner's head now. Archive it, and it will wait here in case a similar day comes again.
